Unschoolers Gathering of Ohio (U.G.O.) - Retreat
Our 4th Annual, 2010 UGO family retreat will be August 29 - Sept. 1, at Shawnee State Park Resort and Conference Center, which is located along the scenic Ohio River in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of southern Ohio (~ 20 minutes west of Portsmouth, Ohio).
Shawnee State Park Resort has one of the top premier lodge / conference centers in the Ohio State Park's system. Shawnee has an awesome lodge with several lounging areas for mingling and gathering. Our UGO group will also have exclusive use of one of their large conference rooms to use for talent shows, dances, etc...
Amenities at Shawnee State Park includes both an indoor and large (86 X 48 ft.) outdoor pool, kiddie pool, hottub, sauna, jacuzzi, exercise room, game room, outdoor tennis, basketball, shuffle board and cornhole games. There is also an 18 hole championship golf course and pro-shop with awesome views overlooking the Ohio River. We'll also have use of their park naturalists for nature programs, hikes etc...
Our UGO group will be staying in the Park's premier cottages. We have reserved all 25 of their premier cottages, which are all located together and just a short, easy walk to the main lodge. Each cottage has 2 bedrooms with beds and bedding for 7, along with a fully furnished kitchen and dining / living room area. All kitchenware (plates, cups, pots, pans, coffee maker, etc...) are provided. Each cabin also has a large screened in porch with a picnic table and chairs. Outside each cabin is a charcoal grill and another picnic table. There is also a large group campfire area, which includes a large charcoal grill and campfire pit where families can gathering for barbeques, campfires, smores and more!
Registration will begin in April, on a first come basis!!! All registrations MUST go through our UGO website, as the Ohio State Parks has already pulled all 25 of their Shawnne State Park cottages off their reservations listings for our UGO group.
